Trip To World Resorts Casino
The recreation and parks department is again planning its popular trip to World Resorts Casino at Aqueduct Raceway. The cost of this trip will be $5. Incentives are not know at this time. Attendees will leave St. Paul’s Senior Center at 10:30 a.m. and travel by recreation bus to the casino. Incentives for this trip are not know at this time. Please note — lunch is on your own. The buffet area is closed but the food court is available. Please note, once the fees are sent to the venues, they are not refundable so make your selections carefully. All trips are open to senior residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City only. To register for the trip, please visit the recreation office at 108 Rockaway Ave.

Friday Night Promenade
Enjoy hospitality Garden City style every week this summer as the village’s “Friday Night Promenade” initiative continues on Seventh Street. Festivities kick off at 6 p.m. Seventh Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic and parking beginning at 5:45 p.m. This week, musical entertainment will once again be provided by the band Fivestone, performing hit songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s. They’ll be plenty of activities for the kids too, including free balloon art and face painting care of balloon twister John Reid and his team. Tables and chairs will be set up in the street for additional seating and outdoor dining and dinner specials will be offered at local eateries along Seventh Street. Queen Elsa also returns with a surprise visit from her sister, Anna, The promenade runs every Friday night through September so mark your calendars.

Girl Scout Summer STEM Camp
Through Friday Aug. 29. This5-day Girl Scout mini camp explores a different STEM area each day with an entire day devoted to robots and rovers. Summer Science, Technology Tuesday,Exciting Engineering, Math Marvels and Rockin’ Robotics. Open to all levels; all Girl Scouts should wear their Girl Scout sash and bring a brown bag lunch. This camp covers portions of the following badges: Daisy: Use Resources Wisely; Brownie: Home Scientist; Junior: Get Moving/Entertainment Technology; Cadette: Night Owl; Senior: Game Visionary; Ambassador: Website Designer. Marvelous Movie Matinee
A screening of the 2007 legal thriller Michael Clayton starring George Clooney and producer Sydney Pollack will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. Getting Your Feet Wet
On Tuesday, Aug. 26, the Garden City Recreation Department is again sponsoring a trip to Splish Splash Water Park, located in Riverhead, for youth entering grades 6-9 who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Buses will depart from the parking lot at St. Paul’s School at 9 a.m. and will return there at approximately 5 p.m.
Supervision for this trip will be provided by the recreation staff. The children will enjoy several hours of river rapids, slides, and tube rides at this fantastic water park. The cost of this trip will be $30 per person, which will include unlimited rides at Splish Splash and transportation. Space is limited to 50.
