Island Trees Receives Grant

Recognizing the organization’s continued commitment to children in the local community, Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes presented a $5,000 grant to the Levittown-Island Trees Youth Council.

“Now in its 60th year, the Levittown-Island Trees Youth Council has been a vital community resource for our township’s young people,” said Murray. “We are proud to provide this grant to support their great sports programs.”

The Levittown-Island Trees Youth Council serves approximately 10,000 children, ages 2-18 in the local community through more than a dozen different sports leagues and clubs.

“From baseball and softball, soccer and cheerleading, to basketball, swimming, ice hockey and football, the Levittown-Island Trees Youth Council has been a part of almost every child’s life in Levittown,” said Hudes. “This organization facilitates so many healthy activities for the youth in our community.”

In addition to the sports leagues, the youth council also runs a popular summer recreation program in conjunction with the school district. The program serves as a great way to keep children active and occupied during the summer break and provides employment for local teenagers.

The Levittown-Island Trees Youth Council also has a philanthropic arm, collecting food for local pantries and assisting organizations such as Levittown Kiwanis and the Levittown Chamber of Commerce.

“Having participated in Levittown-Island Trees Youth Council programs when I was growing up, I can personally attest to what an asset this organization is to our community,” said Murray.
