‘Tweens & Teens Movie Day—Divergent
Come have snacks and see Divergent with your friends on the library’s “Big Screen” on Saturday, Feb. 28 from noon to 4:30 p.m. Based on the bestselling YA novel of the same name, Divergent is a fast-paced story of a teenage girl who is forced to choose between her family and a life of adventure. Marvelous Movie Matinée
A screening of the 1965 Cold War Era film The Spy Who Came in From the Cold starring Richard Burton will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. Coffee & Tea By The Book
In person registration began on Tuesday, Feb. 10 for Coffee & Tea by the Book to be held at 10 a.m. Librarians Laura Flanagan and Ann Garnett will moderate a discussion of Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale. Registration is limited to Garden City Public Library cardholders. You can pick up a book when you register at the reference desk. The bestselling author captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women’s war in her latest novel. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and by experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love and freedom in German-occupied and war-torn France. Lego Drop-In Club
The Garden City Public Library’s Children’s Department will be holding a meeting for this monthly club that is for children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. The club will meet on the following Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 5 p.m.: April 1, and May 6. No registration is required, but space is limited. The Drop-In Lego Club was made possible through the generosity of the Friends of the Garden City Public Library as well as through Lego donations from library patrons. Defensive Driving Courses
Six-hour course were conducted by AAA in the Garden City office located at 229 7th St. After March 1, courses will now be held in Homewood Suites by Hilton located at 40 Westbury Ave. in Carle Place. Save money; reduce violation points; sharpen skills. The cost is $39 for AAA members; $32 members 60 and older; $55 nonmembers. Dates and rates subject to change. Online class available.
