At its annual meeting held during the 2015 NAMM Show, the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Board of Directors welcomed Levittown-based music retailer Brian Reardon to a three-year term on NAMM’s board. The NAMM Board of Directors provides guidance and leadership to the global music instrument and product industry. A not-for-profit association, NAMM is comprised of approximately 9,200 member companies located in 102 countries.
A 20-year veteran of the music industry, Reardon has owned Monster Music, a full-line shop in Levittown since 2005. He holds monthly open house events, guitar showcase nights and student exhibition performances at his store, cementing Monster Music’s role as a community hub for music. The store also welcomes hundreds of students each week to its thriving music school.
Reardon views his election to the NAMM Board of Directors as an opportunity to advance the cause of music education.
“I have had the privilege of participating—for five years running now—in NAMM’s education advocacy efforts, as we attempt to honor NAMM’s vision to promote the pleasures and benefits of making music,” he said. “My store owes its existence to music education. Within our lesson program we help more than 600 students—200 of them adult students—establish music-making as an integral part of their daily lives.”
Reardon also plans to work toward helping independent music retailers realize their potential by taking advantage of all NAMM has to offer.
“Many of the most successful programs that my store has in effect today have their origins within NAMM’s professional development programs,” he said. “Monster Music is a true independent dealer, and I look forward to being a voice that represents that independent spirit during my time on the NAMM board.”
Monster Music earned Music Inc. Magazine’s Retail Excellence Award in 2011, and NAMM’s Top 100 Dealer status in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
