Obituary: Patricia Thornton

On Nov. 1, 2015, All Saints Day, Patricia Thornton entered into heaven. Her spirit rose to a reception where the birds sang and the saints cheered. Patricia’s outlook on life was always optimistic, she never complained and always maintained a brave and cheerful outlook.

Patricia, known to her friends as Pat, was born on July 24, 1942 and grew up in Queens. She attended Jamaica High School and Saint John’s University where she played on the woman’s basketball team. She married her husband of 49 years, Robert, in 1966 and they moved out to Oyster Bay where they raised their five children. Pat was an incredible tennis player, enjoyed gardening, traveling and a good party. She always said, “Remember me with a beer, not with a tear.”

Pat was an amazing woman; she was a mom to everyone who walked through her door. She was completely devoted to taking care of her family and grandchildren. Her friends and family will deeply miss her laughter, her selfless giving and the emotional support she always gave. Her generous heart filled the home with love, family, friends and there was always room for one more. She died at home in peace with her devoted and loving family.

Pat’s spirit will be carried on by her husband Robert of 49 years, her five children: Robert, Keith, Brian, Edward and Carolyn, her eight wonderful grandchildren and extended family and friends.

Her life will be celebrated at Saint Dominic’s R.C.Chapel with a Memorial Mass on Friday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. For further information visit www.fpdevinefuneralhome.com.
