The Morris Family, residents of Manhasset since 1968 and recently moved to Port Washington, announced the passing of M. Cyril Morris on Wednesday, Jan. 6. Beloved husband of 52 years to Christina D. Morris, who survives him along with their two sons, Geoffrey, his wife Janet, and grandchildren Ashley and Nicholas, who reside in Cape Town, South Africa, and Dr. Stephen Morris, his wife Hope and two grandsons, Elliot and Calder, who reside in Seattle, WA. Cyril celebrated his 90th birthday on May 1, 2015 and was in good health until diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2015. Cyril was a well-known commercial photographer in the New York area as well as notably involved in international travel. He served in the Army Air Corp as a draftee in 1944 and finished his services as a radio operator. He graduated from The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and started his career as a stringer for United Press International and the Associated Press. His early love of travel was launched as ships photographer for Holland American Lines, followed by employment with SAS Scandinavian Airlines. Striking out on his own freelance business, his diverse client roster included airlines, tourist offices as well as press trips to the major capitals of the world. On a more local basis, his clients included real estate and construction organizations such as William Levitt and the Lefrak Organization, having developed a reputation for his aerial photography of expansive construction sites via helicopter. His work appeared in LIFE magazine, The New York Times and local media throughout the tri-state area. He will be missed.
