Levittown student Shavani Sharma, a senior at Division Avenue High School, conducted independent research this summer at Winthrop University Hospital. Sharma’s research focused on the connection between diabetes and cholesterol metabolism. Sharma used FXR bile acid to control cholesterol levels in the body to maintain glucose levels.
