October is Fire Prevention Month
All residents of the Wantagh Fire District are invited to attend an annual open house from 2 to 5 p.m. at Wantagh Fire Headquarters, 3470 Park Ave., Wantagh to learn about fire safety and prevention.

Chess
Learn to play chess from a member of the Long Island Industrial Chess League. Experienced players are also welcome. $8 for eight classes. From 10 a.m. to noon in the community room at the ITPL.
