Carol (McHattie) Regeness, 88, of Avon, CT, beloved wife of the late Paul W. Regeness, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, Jan. 5. Born in Manhattan, daughter of the late James and Caroline (Blake) McHattie, beloved sister of Lorraine Shepherd of Ontario, Canada and sister-in-law and sewing partner Margaret Regeness, of Hendersonville, NC.
Carol worked as a secretary for the Herricks Public School system in New Hyde Park. She was an active member of New Hyde Park Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, led the Pioneer Girls Club and led many ladies bible studies in her home and in church. After moving to Avon in 1990, she was an active member of Valley Community Baptist Church in Avon, where she continued her love of leading ladies bible studies, singing in the choir, working in the kitchen and helping with vacation bible school.
Carol was a loving and godly woman. She was full of life, fun loving, with a contagious sense of humor, and a gracious hostess who always enjoyed entertaining friends, family and especially missionaries from around the world. As a young wife and mother, she and Paul opened their home to her parents where they cared for them for more than 30 years while raising their family. She mentored and influenced many young mothers on raising children, how to be a godly wife and how to follow Jesus in every aspect of their lives. This experience led to one of Carol’s greatest joys which was to teach women of all ages about God’s word.
Carol’s greatest legacy is not only her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but also the many women in her life who wanted to be “adopted” by her to glean from her many years of wisdom and discernment. Her infectious smile carried her through life, even when she could no longer express herself with words. The family wishes to thank all her care givers throughout the years, both at home and at Cherry Brook Health Care Center, for their love and support through Carol’s long journey.
Carol leaves her son William Paul Regeness (Diane) of Warrenton, VA; three daughters Linda R. Scott (Rob) of Simsbury, Diane C. Maida (Russ) of Avon and Janet C. Rooney (James) of Simsbury; 14 grandchildren: Samantha, Rebekah, Sarah (Scott), and Paul; Joshua (Anna), Jacob, Hannah (Jake); Jessica (Dave), Cheryl, and Nicholas; Kevin (Baylee), Brian, Michael, and Jason; five great grandchildren: Joey, Kalli, Cyrus, Rook, and Daniel; and several nieces and nephews. Her family received friends on Jan. 10 at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center in Avon. A Celebration of Carol’s life followed. Burial will be private in Evergreen Cemetery, Avon. Contributions may be made to the VCBC Deacon’s Fund, 590 West Avon Rd., Avon, CT 06001. Visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com to send condolences.
