School spirit has been building in the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District as the high school prepares for Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 12. The Baymen will hit the gridiron at 2 p.m. against the Carle Place Frogs at Memorial Football Field, by Roosevelt Elementary School. The Homecoming Parade steps off at 1 p.m. in front of Oyster Bay High School and travels down East Main Street and Audrey Avenue to Memorial Field.
Leading up to the big game, high school students and staff have been pumping up the excitement for Spirit Week, Oct. 7 to 11. School counselors Danielle Urtheil and Deanna Cali, who coordinate the event, planned a theme for each day of the week, including Meme Monday, Pajama Day, Patriotic Day and Class Color Day. Each class will participate in a bulletin board decorating competition during the week and at pep rally, Oct. 11, they will compete in a lip sync contest.

Coaches will introduce the varsity and junior varsity athletic teams. The Royal Court will be introduced and the King and Queen will be crowned.
This year’s festivities will feature a “Movies” theme. Each class will represent a different genre, such as horror, fantasy and musicals. Classes will be judged on their floats, banners, lip-sync performances, bulletin board designs and charitable fundraising efforts. The charities, by class, are: seniors, Edmund C. Reilly Foundations (Suicide Education and Prevention); juniors, Hermansky Pudlak syndrome; sophomores, Last Hope Animal Rescue and freshmen, the Olivia Hope Foundation.

The class that wins the lip-sync contest will perform their routine at halftime. Entertainment will also be provided by the cheerleaders. Booster Club and class representatives will be selling refreshments and school apparel.
“Homecoming is one of the best displays of school and community pride,” said Oyster Bay High School Athletic Director Kevin Trentowski. “Many thanks to the booster club, the student council and the student body for making it a great event each year.”
