Great Neck Library is celebrating Jewish-American Heritage Month as Michael Chaplan, M.A. Anthropology, shares his knowledge of the Jewish immigrant community, their steamship journey to New York and arrival at Ellis Island.

He’ll share photos of old tenements, synagogues, yeshivas and other cultural survivals of the late 1800s and early 1900s. A Q&A is also included.

Chaplan is a career public health professional with a master’s in anthropology from Long Island University and a master’s of public health from Columbia University. He is also a member of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Long Island and the author of the popular New York City treasure hunting book, “The Urban Treasure Hunter,” along with numerous magazine articles on treasure hunting in New York City and the Caribbean islands.

His special interest in genealogical research is immigrant families who participated in “The Great Jewish Migration”from Eastern Europe (1881-1924) and settled in urban areas, particularly in New York City.

The lecture will be held at the Great Neck Library, 159 Bayview Ave. in Great Neck, on Thursday, May 15 at 2 p.m.
