Over 100 second- through fifth-grade students at Glen Head Elementary School competed in the spelling bees under the direction teacher  Janet Goldberg.

All students who entered in the month of May were provided with lists of words to help them prepare for the qualifying rounds and bees.  Qualifying rounds were grade-specific written spelling quizzes, and the bees were live in front of an audience of their peers.

Faculty judges conducted grade-level bees using the rules and grade-level spelling lists developed by the Scripps National Spelling Bee. First, second, and third place winners for each grade level won medals and all participants were given a ribbon of participation.
