Third graders at Glen Head Elementary recently created a wax museum, combining English, social studies and the arts. Each student selected a famous person in history or current events and embodied them, dressing in costume and presenting on their work.

Teacher Theresa Derasmo, who helped organize the project, said that three third-grade classes, totaling approximately 70 students, participated in it.

Dersamo said it is an annual project for Glen Head students and that each class is led by its teacher. In the weeks before their presentation, the third graders wrote biographies and practiced public speaking to capture their famous person’s persona.

All of the students involved participated in a layered experience of researching, reading, learning, singing and acting.

Some of the famous people to appear at Glen Head Elementary included Albert Einstein, Ruby Bridges, Princess Diana, Martin Luther King Jr., Helen Keller, Steve Jobs, Alexander Hamilton, Simone Biles, Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Misty Copeland and Thomas Edison.
